Sinus lifting, also known as sinus augmentation, is a surgical procedure designed to create more space for dental implants in the upper jaw, particularly in the back molar and premolar areas. This area often presents challenges for implant placement due to the proximity of the maxillary sinuses, which are air-filled spaces above the upper teeth. In cases where there isn’t enough bone height, or the sinuses are too close, a sinus lift becomes necessary to provide adequate bone support for the implant.

During a sinus lift procedure, the sinus membrane is gently pushed upward, and bone graft material is added to the space created beneath the sinus floor. This new bone material strengthens the area and increases bone height, allowing for the stable placement of implants.

After the procedure, the grafted bone integrates with the existing jawbone over several months, forming a solid foundation for dental implants.

Sinus lifts are often essential for patients who have experienced bone loss in the upper jaw due to tooth loss, periodontal disease, or natural bone resorption over time. By undergoing a sinus lift, patients increase the likelihood of a successful dental implant outcome, ensuring the stability and durability of their new teeth.
